What is Mental Health First Aid?

Image result for mental health first aidMental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course which teaches you how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but just like physical first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis to people who may be experiencing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and psychosis. Your successful completion of this course will lead to accreditation and certification as an ‘Adult Mental Health First Aider’ via MHFA England.

Why become a Mental Health First Aider?

We all know that wellbeing is good for business and that healthy people are happier, more engaged and more productive. However, statistics now tell us that mental health issues are so common that 1 in 4 people will experience issues in any one year. In fact, mental ill health is responsible for 91 million working days lost every year, with stress, anxiety and depression being the biggest cause of sickness absence in our society today.
